Q:I get so confused about recycling plastic! I'm from Canada and we have these plastic milk bags, can those be recycled? How about tetra juice packs?

Anonymous

Thank you for your question!

Much of this depends on where in Canada you live. Plastic milk bags can be recycled like any plastic bag. The Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) maintains a searchable database of municipalities where you can recycle plastic bags. They’ll even tell you if you can recycle them curbside, or if you have to drop them off.

Visit http://www.plastics.ca/Recycling/PlasticBags/MunicipalitiesCollectingBags/index.php to look up your municipality and see what your options are. Don’t forget to rinse the bags thoroughly!

You’ll have to check with your local recycling program to see about tetra paks. Here are links to the recycling programs in each province:

Alberta
British Columbia
Manitoba
New Brunswick
Newfoundland and Labrador
Northwest Territories
Nova Scotia
Nunavut (provided by Arctic Co-operatives Limited)
Ontario
Québec
Saskatchewan
Yukon
